Things We Love Thursday – Let’s Get Floored!

As designers, we always strive to create ‘Wow’ rooms. Meaning, a room that immediately engages the viewer, be it someone looking at a photograph of the space or someone walking into it. The room should have a life force that moves people’s moods in an immediate positive direction.

We do this with art, furniture, and accessories; but one of our main strategies is using rugs. Plentifully.

We adore rugs and put them everywhere. Not only do they ground the space therefore making people feel comfortable and at peace, but they also have the power to change a good space into a truly great one – a wow room in other words.

This is especially true in a white room  (we specify A LOT of white paint in our projects) because brightly colored rugs stand out in a big way juxtoposed against white walls and ceilings.

The large-scale patterned rug we specified in this LA tiny house completes the room in a wow-worthy fashion. Design by 1 Chic Retreat

We never obey the ‘one rug only’ limitation -we layer rugs on top of each other all the time. Like patterned rugs on sisal rugs…..

We found this Tuareg rug at an auction and threw it on top of a sisal in this Savannah carriage house project. Design by 1 Chic Retreat

Or layering a zebra rug on top of a Persian like so…..

We specified a smaller zebra-patterned cowhide rug over the large Persian rug in this So Cal project’s bedroom. Design by 1 Chic Retreat

If you’re getting some ideas on spicing up your rooms, feast your eyes on these beauties we rounded up……
