It’s that time of year again when winter has dug its heels in stubbornly; in the midst of freezing our butts off (remember how we talked about creating hygge last week?), many of us are yearning for balmy, warmer places like the Bahamas, Barbados, Fiji, Palm Beach, Hawaii and other glorious holiday spots where blue skies and seas abound. For those of us not lucky enough to fly off to such glorious locations, there is a material we can incorporate into our homes that will remind us of such places.
Which is why we are going to talk about wicker.
Wicker is a kind of design miracle, turning humble natural fibers such as cane, raffia, and rattan, into miraculous shapes, such as furniture, lamps, brackets, trays, and myraid other objects. One of the things we like best about it is its magical ability to bring any room back down to earth with its instant tactile relaxation. Plus it glorifies the color tan. What could be better than that? Lastly, it infuses island vibes into any home whatever the style, be it traditional or modern.
We had the good fortune to visit Palm Beach, a mecca for wicker, this month for a client visit and were so inspired by all the wicker in our midst that we rounded up some goodies for our readers….
