1. The tray
Start with a tray (read this post all about trays), be it stone, lacquer, or woven. The tray adds dimensionality to the coffee table. Just like a rug grounds a room, a tray grounds the coffee table design.
2. Add details on the tray
Here is where we like to put a gorgeous book with maybe a vase on top with faux, real, or dried botanicals. We might add some beads, a scented candle, or a vintage brass ornament.
3. Add some height
Add some larger or fatter statement pieces, such as hurricane lanterns, vases, or candlesticks to create height and to draw attention to your coffee tablescape.
