Red is for Valentine’s Day

With Cupid’s annual party coming up next week, we thought it would be an opportune time to talk about one of our true favorite colors –  RED.

Before we say anything else, red is not a color we use plentifully; the reverse is true. In fact, red has such an immense impact on the senses, that it’s important to acknowledge a little goes a long way.

We can’t recall a time when we didn’t add a pop of red to a room design; if it’s not exactly red, we will add pink or orange instead because they are cousins of red. Reds and their relatives, in small, measured doses, add excitement, engagement, romanticism, and a sensual quality to a room (hence why we are bringing it up to honor Valentine’s Day ;)).

The words to remember are ‘small, measured doses’ though. If red dominates a room, it has the opposite effect – it can become anger and anxiety-producing (yikes!), so remember that the power of red is enormous so you don’t need a lot.

Here are some ways we’ve added red to a room….

We specified a throw with reds, a red antique Chinese brush, and a red pillow in this otherwise neutral living room. Watch how your eyes are drawn in instantly and how the room pops. Design by 1 Chic Retreat
A fire-engine-red nightstand combined with some light red in the bed cushion makes this bedroom especially exciting. Design by 1 Chic Retreat

Try it for yourself, either in your own home or in your Airbnb or short-term rental. You and your guests will be wowed, we promise.
